Say “hi” to Nancy for me 😉

Here is my recommended way to do it:

  • Contact the clinic with your estimated travel dates. (Mention my name 😉 this is for my benefit, but might also be for yours), your Doctor is Dr. Parra. He is German, trained and practiced in Germany before moving to CR. His English is excellent, and one of his assistants, who will deal with emails ahead, also speaks English well enough to communicate without mistakes.
  • Book the flights to/from Liberia Costa Rica
  • Arrange for your 1st appointment about 2-3 hours after arriving in Liberia
  • If there is follow-up work anticipated or even possible, schedule it for the morning you are returning to Canada or the afternoon the day before if your flight leaves before noon.
  • Arrange for a Car, if you can, I recommend Vamos and take proof of your credit card company’s insurance https://www.pradosdelsol.com/why-i-like-vamos-car-rental/. The car company will pick you up at the airport. The car agencies are mostly SW of the Airport about 5-10 minutes.
  • Rent a car (or take a taxi), head North West (turn RIGHT leaving the care agencies – most, all?, are on the South side of the highway) to go back to Liberia.
  • Turn LEFT, North West, onto the ground level Highway #1 (This is Highway #2 in Alberta … the Inter-American Highway 😉 )
  • Turn RIGHT, North East, onto AV 11
  • The dental office is “right there” with off road parking in front of the building.
  • Plan on spending your 1st night in Liberia if you’ve never driven in a Latin American country. Remember: It gets dark by 7pm EVERY day of the year. Personally, I drove in the dark my 1st time to Costa Rica – but I’m used to it and it doesn’t stress me out. For most people, daylight driving has lowered stress levels and it is easier.
  • See PradosDelSol.com web site for detailed instructions on getting from Liberia to Prados Del Sol. Especially important if you decide to travel when it is dark.
  • On your way to our units, stop at one or two of the huge gift shops a few minutes from the airport. https://www.pradosdelsol.com/where-to-buy-souvenirs/ check prices and items that interest you. Now – do NOT buy ANYTHING this time. Save your purchases for the return trip. That way you know what you can get on the way back and decide whether to buy elsewhere during your trip.
  • Enjoy Costa Rica! Check out our web site for lots more tips and ideas.
  • Return either the morning of or the day before your flight for any follow-up work. Remember to leave time to stop at the souvenir shop either on your way to the dental, or after the dental but before your flights. (Remember – you’ll be returning your car within a km of the 2 biggest souvenir shops so that makes it convenient.)

If you need MORE than one return trip (unlikely but possible depending on HOW extensive) I have more than once made a ‘day’ trip to Liberia, doing some things around there, then returning. Once you’ve driven in the country once, you’ll likely feel comfortable driving after dark.

Of my 4 rentable units (hopefully 5 by April) I have 2 currently rented in April.

There is a second dentist that has been recommended to me by someone I trust (Nick Jeffrey in case I’m called to defend this statement.) but I have no experience with: He is located in Nosara, about 15km north of Prados del Sol: https://www.nosara.com/listings/nosara-dental/

Nosara is the ‘city’ (think town) nearest. The advantage of considering this one is … if you need MULTIPLE trips for work to be done … they are only ½ hour away (roads not as good as Canada.) I probably would have tried them if I hadn’t already used Dr. Parra, nothing against Dr. Parra, just the convenience of location to PDS.
